In addition to the instruction leaflet you find in your box, the below provides additional guide for your next 5 days

Why can I not add my own foods during the 5 days?

A simplified version for you to understand is this - the key for your body to reap the benefits from fasting depends on careful control of

  • Caloric intake

  • Ratio of macronutrients intake (where in particular low protein consumption is crucial)

Eating foods not found in the ProLon box will very likely increase the first and almost always tilt the ratio of the second.

What if I feel hungry any day during the 5 days?

Can I add my own foods during the 5 days?

You should add food to the program only as a last resort, only if you feel so hungry that you feel like you are going to break the fast.

In such case, you may have a slice or two of apple, or 1 stalk of celery, or 1 small Persian (“baby”) cucumber of 5-6 inches per day.

You can also add:

  • Up to 1 tablespoon of dried herbs or spices per day to your soups or other foods in the diet to enhance the flavor (preferably unprocessed, e.g., red pepper flakes)

  • Up to 1 teaspoon of sea salt (as long as there are no health contraindications)

  • Up to 2 slices of lemon per day (squeezed, not eaten), whether you use it in your soups, herbal teas, or water.

  • Up to 2 pieces of sugar-free gum per day

  • Herbal teas (unsweetened and caffeine free) as much as you like.

  • All types of sparkling water are fine (no sweeteners of any kind)

For coffee, it is advised against. But if you must, caffeine up to 90 mg per day, which roughly translate into

  • 1 cup (8fl oz) of coffee (no cream or sweetener)

  • 2 cups (16fl oz) of black or green tea (traditionally steeped), no matcha

  • Or 6 cups (48fl oz) of decaf coffee (no cream of sweetener)

Can I have coffee during the 5 days?

Caffeine (in coffee or other drinks) is advised against during the 5 days; as a stimulant, it could reduce the benefits you obtain from the program.

If you experience severe caffeine withdrawal symptoms (what is "severe" varies by each person), you may have up to 90 mg of caffeine per day.

Roughly speaking, that may mean,

  • 1 cup (8fl oz) of coffee (no cream or sweetener)

  • 2 cups (16fl oz) of black or green tea (traditionally steeped), no matcha

  • Or 6 cups (48fl oz) of decaf coffee (no cream of sweetener)

What drinks not found in the ProLon box are allowed?

Generally speaking, anything that is calorie-free, unsweetened (incl. natural sugars), caffeine-free will not intervene with the program.

For example,

  • Herbal teas (unsweetened and caffeine-free) as much as you like.

  • All types of sparkling water are fine (no sweeteners of any kind)

What is the L-drink for? It seems such a waste to throw the remaining away - can I drink more than the instructed amount?

The L-Drink is an "energy drink" - it is a glycerol-based mix that provides extra energy throughout the fast. Also, it helps to preserve your lean body mass (i.e. losing fat but not muscles) when you are under caloric restriction during fasting.

L-drink does contain calories. So you should not drink more than instructed - otherwise you risk going beyond the calories allowed for that day.

There is also no point to keep the L-drink for the future. Your meals, when you are not fasting, will provide you with the calories and nutrients that you need.
